Articles of Agreement made and entered into the

day of

One thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine BETWEEN WILLIAM CHARLES SARGEAUNT, of Downing Street, Whitehall, London, in the County of Middlesex, Esquire, C.M.G., one of the Crown Agents for the Colonies, for and on behalf of Her Majesty, of the one part, and

of the other part. Whereby it is mutually agreed between the said parties as follows :----

1. The said

for the consideration hereinafter mentioned, agrees, so soon as thereunto required by the said Crown Agent for the Colonies, to proceed to Hong Kong as Constable in the Police Force of the Government of that Colony, and to act in all respects according to the directions and instructions given to him by the Government of Hong Kong through its properly qualified officers, and the said hereby agrees

that he will faithfully and honestly fulfil the duties required of him by or on behalf of the said Government of Hong Kong for the term of five years from the date of arrival in the Colony, or for any further period of service if he should re- engage himself after the termination of the first period of five years,

2. And it is hereby further agreed, that in consideration of the services so

to be rendered to the said Government of Hong Kong by the said

the annual sum of four hundred and eighty dollars ($480), in monthly payments

of forty dollars, to be made in Hong Hong, such pay to commence and begin from the date of the said

embarking from England for Hong Kong,

at liberty to remit to any person in Great Britain such portion of the above mentioned monthly payments (not exceeding one half), through the said Government, at the rate of four shillings and twopence for each dollar so remitted.

4. And it is further agreed that the said Government of Hong Kong will, if the conduct of the said

shall in the opinion of the said Government have been satisfactory, grant him at the expiration of ten years' service a pension at the rate of fifteen-sixtieths, or one-fourth, of his annual salary, and an addition of one-sixtieth of such annual salary in respect of each additional year of service after ten years. Such pension, however, to be granted in accordance with the terms of the Governor's Minute, No. 51, of 17th March, 1874, herewith annexed.
